ROLE PLAY.

The objective of a ROLE PLAY is to put the candidate in an emotional situation and expect him to be in the most rational area possible.

It is done because it is impossible to recreate a stressful situation and therefore the candidate is asked to “place” himself in an imaginary situation with a high level of stress.

Instructions are usually given first, they are usually written, so the candidate should read them before proceeding.

It is important to read slowly.

Sometimes you do it alone and other times they put one more person to do the opposite part.

It is common for someone from the company to follow a pre-established script.

In aviation, most stress situations have already occurred or have been thought of in advance by a team of people who make the different emergency lists and manuals contemplating many of these situations.

It is sought that the candidate tries to carry out his duties with confidence and rationality, leaving aside the emotional component.
That is why in the situation in which they propose we have to go to the rational zone, to the zone of serenity and thus be able to execute the steps with greater confidence.

If the role play involves a technical situation, we must use our previous training and if it is a non-aeronautical situation and thus imaginary, we must use our most logical thinking.

For example, with a passage that is conflicting or complains.

And how we do it?

We must demonstrate that we know how to request and collect information.
Ask questions.

Gather information, in order to make better decisions.

Cooperate, make the other person cooperate, without forcing their decision.

React non-emotionally: Always keep a cool mind.

Treat others politely, regardless of how emotional the situation becomes.

Demonstrate honesty, acknowledging company mistakes.

Use: We, well, we represent the airline.

Align ourselves with the values of the company: It will always reach recruiters better if we know the values of stated company.

Discover key ideas: Reasons for the conflict and options to unblock it.

Propose plans: Generate ideas in the short and others in the medium term, trying to support our decision in a future reward.

Listening: Pay close attention to the words and intonation.

Communicate: Talk less, more direct, maintaining respect.

Manage the time available: Be aware of how much time we have to resolve the conflict.

Good luck to those of you who have Role Plays.

Until then, find peaceful skies.
