THE WORST QUESTION OF AN INTERVIEW

AND HOW TO MAKE IT GOOD

In this blog post we will see:

· Why “Tell me about yourself” is so feared.

· How to deal with the question having some guarantees.

· What steps to take to answer it well.

There is a moment in the interview when the interviewer always, ALWAYS looks at you in the eyes, smiles… and throws you a poisoned ball.

Tell me about yourself.

Initially it is a simple question but it has a trick.

Let’s see why:

Nobody knows more about you than yourself. That goes in your favor.

· You have to summarize your twentysomething, thirtysomething or more years of life in just 1 minute or 1:30. That goes against.

· You decide what to talk about. This is for or against. (Now we see it).

First of all we have to know what we are going to say about ourselves.

Using logic, we will say that in a job interview for an airline, you should talk about yourself in a professional setting.

That is, work done, work experience and qualifications.

DO NOT deviate to the personal, family, tastes, hobbies, personality, etc.
They will ask you about it if they are interested in knowing.

Now you need a MENTAL STRUCTURE.

You talk about your professional side but… How do you explain it?

We propose a way that places the interviewer easily.

In Qrewmentor we use the famous structure PRESENT PAST FUTURE.

PRESENT: Who are you today professionally. This places them on whether or not you gather the necessary requirements for their job offer.

PAST: How did you get here? BE SHORT. Degree and previous jobs. If you have a lot of previous experience, resume.

Leaving them wanting to know more about you is more positive than negative.

Why is it positive not to tell everything?

A personal interview IS NOT AN EXAM.
It is a meeting where the interviewer assesses whether you meet the requirements to move on to the next phase of the process.

Therefore there must be a CONVERSATION and this must be similar to one that you would have with your boss, with your colleagues or with your passengers.

A conversation is NOT a monologue, so leave parts undiscovered, create hooks so they want to know more, and ask questions too.

FUTURE: It is the part of you where you talk about your development in the future and the reason why you have decided to go to that interview.

Well, once you have the subject (professional) and the structure (PRESENT PAST FUTURE) the last part remains:

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

Handling this question well you demonstrate:

· That when you master a subject (you talk about yourself) you know how to structure it.
· What you can summarize in the important points.
· That you are in control of the answer, you explain it in a calm and relaxed way.

This will produce a non-verbal communication more in line with your lower level of nerves, and it is important to give the feeling of serenity.

In the answer, the following factors must be taken into account:

· Talk slow. There is a natural tendency to rush to finish faster.
· Use simple words. It’s about being understood. THIS POINT IS VERY IMPORTANT IF WE USE ENGLISH.
· Take breaks. So that the message easily reaches the interlocutor.

Once in the airline it will be almost automatic to talk about yourself because introducing ourselves is something we do over and over and over and over….

And believe me… again and again.

Better start now… right?

Meanwhile, Find peaceful skies.
